Brazil’s Marta became the first footballer in the world to score five consecutive Olympic goals. Brazil trounced China 5–0 in their first match at the Olympics.

 
Marta scored two goals (9th minute, 47th minute) while the other goals were scored by Debinha (22nd), Andrisa Alves (74) and Britz (89). Marta, a six-time best footballer, has so far scored 111 international goals. China’s team is ranked 15th in the world but most of the players in the team are new. There are only five players who took part in the Rio Olympics.

Britain beat Chile The 
UK team started their Olympic campaign with a victory by defeating Chile 2–0. In the match played without spectators, both goals for Britain were scored by Allan White in the 18th and 73rd minutes. Football matches have started two days before the opening ceremony.
