Ireland’s Boxer Injured while Celebrating Victory

Tokyo
Sometimes excessive happiness can be overwhelming, and so was the case when Irish boxer Aiden Walsh crashed out of the Olympics while trying to celebrate his quarter-final victory. Boxing officials said on Sunday that Walsh did not turn up for a medical check-in ahead of his semi-final bout against Britain’s Pat McCormack, giving his opponent a walkover in the final.

Missed the chance of gold medal

Walsh would still get the bronze medal but missed his chance to win the gold. After his quarter-final win over Mauritius’s Mervain Clare, he jumped so badly for joy that he injured his ankle. The Ireland team confirmed that he had been ruled out of the Olympics due to an ankle injury.
